The ISO 14001 standard is a structure for Environmental Management that the International Organization for Standardization has issued in Sept 1996 and revised on 15th November 2004. The standard is based on the principles of Continual Improvement in Environmental Performance of a company’s environmental aspects. The standard has utilized the TQM concept of Plan-Do-Check-Act, thus causing improvement. It contains a set of requirements that a company has to address and implement in its activities. The basic purpose is to continually improve its environmental performance. The standard also makes a clear requirement that the industry and the people within it shall be committed towards prevention of pollution.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE:

This course aims to provide you with the opportunity to learn about the subject of auditing of environmental management systems, specifically those based on the ISO 14000 family of international standards.

At the end of the course participants will learn about:

- Purpose of an Environmental Management System.
- Eight principles of Environmental Management.
- Purpose, content and interrelationship of ISO 14000, ISO 14001, ISO 14004 and ISO 19011.
- Interpretation of the requirements of ISO 14001 in the context of an audit.
- Roles and responsibilities of auditors and lead auditors
- Planning and conducting an audit in accordance with ISO 19011.
- Reporting the audit, including writing valid, factual and value-adding non-conformity reports.
- Undertaking audit follow-up activities, including evaluating the effectiveness of corrective action.
- Role of Accreditation Bodies

TEACHING METHODOLOGY:

This course has been designed with input and feedback internationally from a number of trainers, customers and learning consultants. The course design reflects a high level of interactivity between the trainer and the participants. It is built upon the participants input all throughout the course. This input by being mapped on the classroom walls will help the participants follow and remember the course structure and content.

TARGET PARTICIPANT:

Participants must have some understanding of the content, application and implementation of the ISO 14000series of standards prior to the commencement of the course.

CERITIFICATE:

On successful completion of the course, a certificate will be issued to the participant. The certificate is valid for three years for the purpose of auditor certification
